As stated in our exterior painting section, Georgia weather wreaks havoc on most traditional forms of exterior building materials. Pressed fiberboard siding such as Louisiana Pacific (L.P.), Omniboard, Masonite, Smurfit, and Georgia Pacific (G.P.) siding that was installed all throughout the 80's and 90's on many Georgia homes has probably felt the worst of this weather. Most of it has been proven to be faulty material, and in many cases, is still under class-action lawsuits from which our customers have received from $0-$7,000 to replace their siding (more info). The L.P. and G.P. siding was never primed on the backside, and most of the top and bottom sides. When not properly caulked, primed, and painted, the siding starts to swell. If you have exposed holes where your nail heads have sunken into your siding, you either need to get them caulked and painted by a professional very quickly, or replace the siding on your entire house. In some cases, once the swelling and rotting begins, it is too late to save the siding, even with a high quality paint job. This is why we use as many non-rot and maintenance free exterior products as possible.
However, James Hardie has created several product lines that are not only resistant to rot, mold, mildew, and algae, but they also hold paint much longer than conventional wood siding. They also have a new line of factory-painted siding, called Color Plus, available in 20 siding colors and 4 trim colors, that comes with a 15-year warranty on siding and labor! This is the newest product on the market, and we are very proud to be offering this to our customers.
James Hardie siding provides low-maintenance, but unlike vinyl, doesn't forgo the beauty and character of wood. Hardie fiber-cement siding resists rotting or cracking, and it resists damage from rain and hail. Hardie siding offers a limited, transferable warranty for up to 50 years, and we offer a ten year labor guarantee. We're sure you'll love the look and durability of James Hardie products and our installation experience will ensure quality and beauty for your home for years to come.
